Why Go Green?
A sustainable building, or green building is an outcome of a design which focuses on increasing the efficiency of resource use - energy, water, and materials - while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment during the building's lifecycle, through better siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal.
Following various of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) principles, "Pacific Palms Resort" has been carefully designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by:
- Becoming pioneers in the country by offering top of the line "Seer 13", Carrier Brand, energy efficient central air conditioning systems, differing from most other developments that still implement Seer 10 or lower standard a/c systems. Thus reducing electrical consumption by over a 38%.
- The use of R410A refrigerant instead of the traditional R22. This highly efficient refrigerant is commonly referred to as the "green refrigerant" due to the fact it is pro-friendly to the ozone layer. As well it increments the cooling capabilities of any energy efficient air conditioning system, thus collaborating as well in the reduction of overall electrical consumption.
- The implementation of Solar Panels to provide heated water to the units instead of the traditional water heater tanks. It has been proved through engineer test and results that besides the air conditioning systems, the second element that consumes the most electricity throughout the country's households is the water heater systems.
- Following the trend used in the last Olympics, the project will offer a 100% chemical free pool, through the implementation of a "Cooper Ionization Purification System".
- Offering a state of the art sewage treatment plant that will reutilize treated waters into the maintenance of common areas and gardens.
- The implementation of "Bio- Architecture" or "Bio-Ecological Sustainable Architecture" into the design and development of the resort. This innovative Pro Green trend is achieved by: 1) minimization of energy consumption through technical measures such as intelligent shell, sunscreens, good thermal insulation and proper use of natural ventilation; 2) achievement of autonomy in energetic terms, using the renewable resources at our disposal.
